What is aadhaar card?

Govt of India has introduced a unique identity number, which is called Aadhaar. It is a 12 digit individual identification number. This Aadhaar Number is issued by the (UIDAI) Unique Identification Authority of India. This number can be used as a Proof of Identity (PoI). This number serves as Proof of Identity and Proof of Address as well. This number is unique and valid throught India. www.uidai.gov.in is the official website to get enrolled online. Individuals can take an appointment.

Aadhaar is meant for individuals of any age (including children) for the purpose of establishing identities. Since Aadhaar is for only individuals, it is different for all the members of a family. For deciding uniqueness of every individual, the demographic details (residence address information) of the person and his/her biometric information (photograph, iris-scan, fingerprints) is collected which is stored in a centralized database.

In order to add or remove or modify the data in your aadhaar card, you need to visit near by aadhaar enrolment center and submit the necessary document for aadhaar amendments, upon completion of this process you will be given a acknowledgement slip and the new aadhaar card will be issued and sent to you in 10 to 15days (tentatively)
